IKO offers a range of primers designed to prepare the substrate for the installation of bituminous membranes. The choice of primer depends on two factors: the type of bituminous membrane and whether the primer is solvent-based or water-based.
For the self-adhesive IKO secura, we recommend the resin primer IKO pro Activator, which is available in a convenient pressurized container of 19.6 kg, in a spray of 750 mL, or in a 5 L can.
For self-adhesive IKO bitumen base layers and bitumen vapor barriers, we recommend the primer IKO pro SA Bitumen Primer, based on SBS bitumen.
For all other IKO bituminous roofing membranes, we recommend both IKO pro Quick Primer and IKO pro ECO Primer. IKO pro Quick Primer contains solvents and dries after approximately 30 minutes at 20 degrees Celsius. IKO pro ECO Primer is water-based, so the drying time depends more on the temperature. At 20 degrees Celsius, the drying time is 2 to 3 hours.
