When renovating an existing bituminous roof waterproofing finished with aluminium paint/coating, the renovation system below can be applied, provided that proper preparation is carried out to obtain a stable and well-adhering substrate.
Renovation system
In addition to the general measures for renovation on existing bituminous waterproofing systems, the following steps must be followed:
- Substrate preparation
- Thoroughly brush the existing bituminous waterproofing with aluminium coating.
- Remove any loose aluminium coating.
- Lightly torch the surface to release any remaining loose aluminium particles.
- Brush again afterwards.
- Important: no loose aluminium coating may remain; the substrate must be stable to ensure proper adhesion of the new layer.
- Primer application
- Apply a bituminous primer, type IKOpro Quick Primer.
- Installation of the new top layer
- Install the Quadra top layer using partial torch bonding.
- Upstands: to be executed with a fully bonded top layer.
Conditions
It is recommended to apply this type of renovation only on roofs with a wind resistance of up to 2,000 Pa.
