Tip!
- To apply primer to accessories, use IKO pro Bitumen Primer SR Spray, available in a 500 ml aerosol can.
- Lead roof drains are often coated in grease and must be properly prepared:
- Gently flame the lead flange of the drainage system—not too intense, just enough for the grease to melt and run off the surface.
- Wipe the drain with a non-synthetic cloth (a synthetic one would melt).
- Scrub using a wire brush.
- Lightly flame again to eliminate any remaining residues.
- Apply a thin layer of IKO pro Bitumen Primer SR.
- If using an APP roofing membrane, check the adhesion more thoroughly by briefly flame-welding and then lifting the membrane to verify bonding.
- Finally, fully torch the underside of the roofing membrane and press it onto the lead flange.
